The vast majority of everything we write is available for free on this website. And it’s accessible to anyone with an internet connection. We provide free content because we believe in adding value to other people’s lives. Free knocks down many barriers and gets our work into the hands (and minds) of hundreds of thousands of people.
Nearly everything is free these days. Julien Smith wrote about this phenomenon in an essay called Making a Million Bucks vs. Reaching a Million People. We tend to subscribe to a similar philosophy.
While we favor the ease of free, one must also realize that this site is 100% reader supported. To create a better reading experience, we don’t place ads on The Minimalists. Thus, we offer our more in-depth work for a small price. This is how we make a living, and we’re completely transparent about this fact.
However you support our work—free or paid—we greatly appreciate the opportunity you’ve afforded us, and we’re grateful you’ve allowed us into your lives, into your homes, and onto your computer screens. Thank you.
Lowering Prices
At the end of 2011, we published three books. Today we’re temporarily lowering the price on all three books to make them more accessible to people who may have not be able to afford them before.
Minimalism: Live a Meaningful Life
Minimalism: Live a Meaningful Life is now $7.99 (originally $24.99). Summary: Do you jump out of bed every morning excited about the day in front of you? Do you live a life defined by deep meaning, endless passion, excellent health, empowering relationships, and constant growth? You can. This book is our finest, most important creation to date. It’s also the best thing we’ve ever written about minimalism and will likely serve as the cornerstone to our work for years to come. Learn more. Or purchase on Amazon.
Minimalism: Essential Essays

This 133-page collection contains a special forward by Joshua and Ryan, and as a special thank you to our readers, we also included two unpublished essays in this collection: Dealing with Overwhelm and Focus On What’s Important. Falling While Sitting Down: Stories
Falling While Sitting Down: Stories is now $0.99 (originally $4.99). Summary: What does it mean to be human? How does a person find meaning in his or her life? While this book is radically different than the writing on our site, this collection is much more than a few simple stories: It’s about what it means to be a human being in incredibly complex times. It’s about dealing with loneliness and discontent while balancing hope and despair. It’s about trying to escape a past that won’t go away. It’s about finding meaning in one’s life. Ultimately, it’s about trying to keep it together while life is falling apart. Learn more. Or purchase on Amazon.
