How to Write Better: Online Writing Class

“I’ve taken other writing classes and this one was by far the most helpful and most practical. My writing improved dramatically over the last month.”

—James Gummer (additional testimonials)

I recently decided to offer a recorded version of my online writing class to accommodate students who weren’t able to commit to attending the live class. In doing so I partnered with Chris Brogan to determine how to add the most value to my students via the recorded content.

As a result, the new class includes 21 videos (instead of the live class’s 4), plus 59 pages of written content, 26 email updates, and a plethora of other materials. I also created a dedicated Private Online Community for How to Write Better students only, where students can interact with me and their fellow classmates directly. And now, if you don’t have time to take the class in 4 weeks, this new version can be stretched to 16 weeks, allowing students to work around their own schedule.

Since I won’t be teaching any live classes in 2014 while I’m on our book tour, this recorded version needed to be robust enough to meet the needs of students who wanted to work at their own pace, as well as students who would find value in the interactive portions of the live class. Thus, even though the classes themselves are recorded, all students still receive live email and community interaction with me, along with personal feedback and a line-by-line critique of their work.

Words Have Power

Hello. Professor Millburn here. The art of the written word is my deepest passion. Finding the right words can make all the difference in the world. The best words add clarity, pace, beauty, emotion, and individual expression to your message. That’s why I love writing.

I get countless questions about writing—about my writing process, about how to write better, about the thickness of my quill and fluid density of the ink in my ink well (or what software programs I use).

Many people want guidance when it comes to improving their writing. Because I have more than a decade of experience training people in the corporate world, I’ve been able to transfer that skillset to help hundreds of students improve their writing over the years.

What I’ve learned from teaching is that I can’t make anyone a better writer, but I can help people write better—much better actually. I learned to write well with no formal training, and so can you. But if you want to learn to write much better much faster, I’m here to help.

Thus, I teach a four-week online writing class designed to improve the writing of people at any skill level—beginner, intermediate, or professional. Regardless of your current ability, I won’t judge you. Rather, I want to show you how to write clearly, concisely, and beautifully. I want to help you create powerful writing that grabs people’s attention and keeps them turning (or scrolling) the page.

A Recipe for Better Writing

What if you were able to communicate more clearly, express yourself more effectively, and add value to other people’s lives with just your written words?

You can—I know firsthand. Not only have I built an audience of 2 million online readers and published five bestselling books, I’ve taught hundreds of students how to write better.

Thankfully, I wasn’t burdened by the traditional education system; I didn’t have to spend years in the classroom to learn how to write. And neither do you.

Instead, through trial and error, I learned a recipe that worked for me. Then, I dismantled that recipe, ingredient by ingredient, and I’ve used it to teach people how to improve their own writing. My students—ranging from novices to experts, teenagers to PhDs, bloggers to businessmen, fiction authors to CEOs—have found tremendous value in my online class. (Testimonials.)

What I’ve learned from several years of teaching is that a rising tide lifts all boats. Whether you’re interested in creating more powerful business emails, improving your blogging skills, composing beautiful prose, or writing your first book, I’m certain my class can help.

How to Write Better is a four-week online class that takes an unconventional, intimate approach toward understanding the principles of beautiful, interesting, influential writing. No fluff. No gimmicks. No shortcuts. Just clear, concise writing.
