Last week we wrote about the importance of contribution at Christmas. Accordingly, this Christmas, after our Holiday Happiness Tour wraps up [December 2012], The Minimalists are going to join some folks in Vancouver, BC, to volunteer our Christmas holiday at a local food bank.
We volunteered at similar spots back in our hometown (Dayton, Ohio), and it was a rewarding experience every time.
You see, sometimes we must contribute to help other people, and sometimes we must contribute to help ourselves. When we step into our discomfort zones and contribute beyond ourselves, we grow, we experience the world in a different way, and we gain new perspectives from which to be thankful.
If you’d like to join us in Vancouver, BC, we’ll be at Quest Food Exchange on December 27, 2012, 10 a.m. Until 3 p.m. [UPDATE: You can see photos from our time at Quest Food Exchange here.]
If you can’t join us in Vancouver, you can still join us by lending a hand at a local shelter or organization in your area. Don’t know where to go? The Shelter Directory is a fantastic place to start.
